Taste the landscape with IJsselmarke
Note! The route largely follows the cycle junction network, but deviates at some points. It is therefore advisable to follow the GPX or else study the route carefully.
After the last ice age, meltwater flowed from the higher Veluwe to the lower IJssel valley. This water formed swamps and wetlands and laid the foundation for the characteristic landscape of the southern IJssel valley. Although the area is now largely reclaimed, traces of this old Veluwe marsh landscape are still visible.

After the last ice age, meltwater flowed from the higher Veluwe to the lower IJssel valley. Although the area is now largely reclaimed, traces of this old Veluwe marsh landscape are still visible.
Origins of IJsselmarke
The wind blew shifting sand from the Veluwe into the wet valley, creating higher, dry sand ridges. Living on these elevations was good. Water and wildlife were nearby and the soil became increasingly fertile. To this day, this fertile soil forms the basis of IJsselmarke: a food network of agricultural entrepreneurs from the southern IJssel valley of Brummen and Voorst.
Working together on landscape and food
Within IJsselmarke, farmers and producers work together with nature to create a healthy landscape and honest, local products. Each farm has its own story, but sustainability, biodiversity and care for land and animals always take centre stage. This keeps the link between landscape and agriculture alive.
Cycling past farmers and produce
From spring 2026, special cycling routes will lead past several IJsselmarke producers. With information boards in their yards, they will introduce their businesses and products. The route also leads past places where you can buy and taste regional products. This way, by cycling you contribute to the landscape, nature and the farmers. And that tastes even better!
North and south routes
Due to the long distance of the route (65km), it is also possible to split the route into two parts. Namely, a northern route and a southern route. This can be done by cutting off the route in Empe. Here are the options:
Northern route:
This can be done by not continuing the route at cycle junction 20 in Empe towards junction 4, but by crossing to junction 23 and then continuing north towards junction 32.
Southern route:
At junction 23 near Empe, do not proceed to junction 32, but continue towards junction 20 in Empe.
