Fletcher Hotel - Landgoed Huis te Eerbeek

Huis te Eerbeek is much older than the present house suggests. It begins its history in the 14th century, as a hunting lodge of the lords of Bronckhorst and Borculo. Remnants of its medieval predecessor can still be found in the cellar. This enclosed manor house consisted of three wings around a courtyard. A wing was added to the house in the 17th century. Ownership of farmland and mills indicates that Huis te Eerbeek was not only used for hunting. A map from 1642 shows vegetable gardens, orchards, fields, meadows, a star forest and two ponds. Three mills are sold in the 1779 sale. During the 18th century, three of the four wings of the house are demolished. The remaining undercrofted wing is converted into the present house at the beginning of the 19th century, which takes on its neo-classical, plastered appearance in 1872. The last private owner was Professor Max Wilhelm Carl Weber, professor of zoology. His widow bequeathed the estate with the house to Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen in 1942. The layout around the house was modified in the nineteenth century in a landscape style. In the process, the square fishpond was excavated to become a water feature with curved shapes. However, the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century straight lanes and wooded banks have been preserved and are still easily recognisable. Of the Eerbeek mills, only the oil mill, which moved to its current location in 1860, has been preserved.

The hotel has renovated rooms and a fine restaurant. The manor house is used for meetings, parties and weddings. The location is perfect for a wonderful cycling or hiking trip.
