Klein Engelenburg

In 1835, Judith van Lennep had a white mansion built. In the early 1900s, jonkheer Schelto van Citters built a side wing to the house to store his automobile. The first car in Brummen, the whole village was shocked. In 1912, Klein Engelenburg was bought by Louise Bogaardt and her husband Constant Jan van Marle. The mansion, which they considered too small, was replaced by the present country house, orangery and coach house. The 80,000 m2 of land became a park garden, where magnificent parties were held. Consequently, the 300-metre driveways were fairy-tale decorated with hundreds of lanterns. The beginning of the former driveway can still be seen at the far corners of Burgemeester de Wijslaan and Engelenburgerlaan and Stationsstraat. That is where the old gate piers stand. Now Klein Engelenburg is a private residential care home.
