With her hands in pulp, Marieke makes heads of people who once existed. She covers them with a skin of Abaca paper (from the Middelste Molen in Loenen) and paints them with acrylic paint. She also prefers to paint with acrylic 'en plein air ' landscapes around the IJssel and on the coast.
Along Boshoffweg in Eerbeek, at number 2, stands the oldest civilian house in the municipality of Brummen. It was built in about 1835 with the monastic bricks of former Coldenhove Castle that stood nearby. It has been a tavern as well as a miller's house and hunting lodge of Huis te Eerbeek. In the 1960s, it was refurbished and took on the function of service house of De Molenbeek estate.
During Art Brummen's open studio weekends, Marieke Ruijgrok holds her open studio in this historic building. Marieke works intuitively. She also paints in landscapes around the IJssel and on the coast, where she tries to capture the atmosphere outside, in all weathers. Here, too, acrylic is her favourite medium.
