The history of Biljoen Castle dates back to 1530. The Duke of Gelre, Karel van Egmond, ordered the construction of the castle. Since then, Biljoen has been expanded and rebuilt many times. The last restoration is from 2009.
The house we see today took shape in the second half of the 17th century. The Baroque bell-shaped helmets on the towers were added then. In the 18th century, the interior and landscaping changed dramatically. The then owner was inspired by a trip to Italy. The great hall on the first floor is particularly testament to this. The walls and ceiling of the hall are stucco 'Vedute di Roma'.

The nature of the estate is also special. There are old trees. A stream runs and there are many water features with cascades. There are special and sometimes very rare plant and animal species. In the park forest, there is an ice house, several monumental 18th-century garden vases and garden fences. Of particular note is a late 19th-century doghouse in the forecourt in which three reclining wine barrels form the housing for the dogs. Biljoen's moat is fed with water from the Beekhuizense Beek. The most beautiful place for skating if the weather cooperates in winter!

You can walk in the landscape park around Biljoen. Combined with the Velperuiterwaarden or Beekhuizen country estate, it makes for a complete (mid)day out.
